If you celebrate Christmas, then you probably have a Christmas tree for a few weeks of the year. Many people use real trees that are chopped down specifically for Chrstmas, but others use artificial trees.
We believe that the artificial evergreen has its roots in Christmas tradition, but there is evidence that these trees were first produced for Hollywood sets, as they look strikingly life-like when photographed.
Technology has come a long way over the years, and today artificial evergreens are manufactured primarily from PVC with a wood and steel armature.
Why not? What else should we do with them?
For one, planting an artificial evergreen tree ensures that tree a much better future than if it were stuck away in an attic or sent to the landfill or incinerator.
The second reason to plant an artificial evergreen is because it offsets your carbon footprint. By planting an artificial evergreen, you ensure that the tree doesn't end up in a waste-to-energy incinerator. You lock those long chain carbon PVC molecules in place, inert and harmless.
Lastly, artificial evergreens simply look great out in the landscape! Every artificial evergreen tree that is planted outdoors is an aesthetic investment in American landscape and enhances the landscape's natural look.
Artificial evergreen trees are aesthetically pleasing and beneficial to the ecosystem as a new home for animals; clearly the outdoor-planted tree is the best tree.
By planting artificial evergreens outdoors, we create a habitat for wildlife; this can foster diversity within natural ecosystems.
In addition, artificial evergreen trees do not require water, which is fast becoming a scarce resource around the world.
Thirdly, you can reduce your carbon footprint by repurposing your artificial evergreen tree. Remember the old saying, REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE. The trees we plant cannot be recycled without producing poison gases, and they cannot be reduced if they have already been manufactured, so we choose to REUSE.

YES you can harvest artificial evergreen trees!
The evergreen trees planted by the 7,000 Evergreens project will be available for harvest and replanting over and over in the future; these trees will provide years of functional use without additional industrial processing, manufacturing, or material input.
Most importantly, these trees do not degrade after multiple harvests!
Like other consumer goods industries, most artificial evergreen trees are manufactured China. Even though these trees may be manufactured in Asia, many varieties are made to resemble evergreen species of other continents.
